The Lotus is a water lily that grows in the muddy bottom of rivers and lakes. The flowers rise above the water emerging pure and clean, and have a heavenly scent. To the Ancient Egyptians the Blue Lotus was a symbol of the Sun, and represented re-birth and creation. It was also a symbol of the deity Nefertem. It has been found depicted in many Egyptian paintings and carvings and has a connection with “party scenes”, dancing or in significant spiritual or magical rites such as the rite of passage into the afterlife.
