Why Blue Lotus

The Lotus Flower, and more specifically the Blue Lotus Flower, has been revered by mankind for thousands of years. The Lotus is a water lily that grows in the muddy bottom of rivers and lakes. The flowers rise above the water emerging pure and clean, and have a heavenly scent. The flowers open when the Sun rises and close when the Sun sets. Having these amazing characteristics, it’s no wonder the Lotus has a symbolic place in many cultures and religions around the world. To the Ancient Egyptians the Blue Lotus was a symbol of the Sun, and represented re-birth and creation. It was also a symbol of the deity Nefertem. It has been found depicted in many Egyptian paintings and carvings and has a connection with “party scenes”, dancing or in significant spiritual or magical rites such as the rite of passage into the afterlife. But there is more than just the symbolism that attracts us to the Blue Lotus. This lotus has been used to produce perfumes since ancient times. Its heavenly scent is said to evoke a feeling of tranquility. But the main reason the Blue Lotus has fascinated us for thousands of years is the chemistry of the plant.
